Sclerotherapy - Vein Treatment

What are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are similar to varicose veins, but smaller. They are often red or blue and are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. They can look like tree branches or spider webs with their short jagged lines. Spider Veins can be found on the legs and face, as well as other areas. They can cover either a very small or very large area of skin.

Spider veins may appear even when the patient is healthy and its treatment is often considered cosmetic, rather than a medical procedure. However, a trained physician using the diagnostic equipment such as in our Boca Raton office, may sometimes find Spider Veins are more than they appear.

What Causes Spider Veins?

Obesity, leg injury and prolonged standing are among the many things that can weaken vein valves. Our South Florida patients often see an increased amount of Spider Veins in both the face and the legs as a result of spending long periods of time in the sun.

Sclerotherapy For Spider Vein Treatment

This is the most common treatment for both spider veins and varicose veins. We will inject a liquid solution into the vein that causes the vein walls to swell, stick together, and seal shut. This stops the flow of blood and the vein turns into scar tissue. In a few weeks, the vein should fade. The same vein may, sometimes, need to be treated more than once.
